Who are Geely?
Geely, or the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, is a Chinese multinational company headquartered in Hangzhou, China, and has been in the car manufacturing industry for nearly 30 years. Since its inception, it’s rapidly expanded to operate multiple R&D centres in Europe, such as a design hub located in Coventry.
After originally just making fridge parts, they transitioned to selling motorbikes in 1994 and eventually cars in 1997. As of today, it’s one of China’s biggest car companies and the parent company of Volvo, Lotus, Polestar, Smart, and the London Electric Vehicle Company.
Taking all that experience, Geely launched into the UK market in 2025, bringing a promising reputation alongside reliable and safe engineering. Through its subsidiaries, Geely has sold millions of cars worldwide, leaving them familiar with the market and customer needs in the UK and Europe.
How is the Geely EX5 Estate?
The Geely EX5 Estate is a mid-sized electric SUV powered by a 160 kW motor, and though it’s the first Geely car sold in the UK and Europe, it’s well-reviewed by critics.
Considering it’s an EV, it has low running costs and zero emissions, containing a fully electric powertrain that’s got a long driving range. It’s able to travel for up to 267 miles and can support DC rapid charging from 30% to 80% in roughly 20 minutes if a compatible rapid charger is used.
As a five-door family SUV, the EX5 has lots of space, including a large cabin and boot, making this an ideal vehicle for families.
It contains impressive integrated technology, including a big touchscreen, an array of advanced driver assistance systems, and wireless connectivity for smartphones.

Safety and reliability
Considering Geely is a growing European presence, they’ve had to pass Euro NCAP tests. After testing, the both the EX5 and Starray received the maximum score of five stars, with scores of 86% for adult occupant safety, 87% for child occupant safety, and 83% for vulnerable road user safety and safety assist.
Since Geely is the parent company of reputable brands such as Volvo, they already have experience in making reliable and safe vehicles in the UK and Europe. This gives them existing knowledge to take into the development of their vehicles under the name Geely.
The EX5 also includes a plethora of safety features like brake assist, traction control, anti-lock braking system, hill descent control, rear parking sensors, and 7 airbags.
